From fortress to museum

These milestones concern the castle itself. They are not a history of this independent ticket service.

  1. 1377

    Permission to build

    The people of Brașov receive the right to build the castle.

  2. 1836

    A changing border

    The border moves and Bran loses its customs role.

  3. 1920

    A gift to Queen Marie

    Brașov offers the castle to Queen Marie of Romania.

  4. 1956

    A museum chapter

    The castle becomes a museum.

  5. 1993

    Restoration completed

    The restored castle reopens to visitors.

  6. 2006

    Restitution

    The castle is legally returned to Princess Ileana’s heirs.
